'No' to new Boral facility

18 Mar, 2008 08:18 AM
MORNINGTON Peninsula Shire is expected to advise the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal that it does not support the proposed bitumen storage facility at Crib Point.

The application was presented to the shire's development assessment committee at Mornington on Monday night as The Independent was going to press.

Statutory planner Peter Bergman's report said the key issues were appropriateness of tanks and associated buildings/works; effect on flora and fauna, including impacts in Western Port, Crib Point Pier and Woolleys Beach; and traffic implications and parking.

The impact on the future Oberon Maritime Memorial Centre was also a factor.

The appeal by Boral Construction Material Limited is listed to be heard by the VCAT for eight days from April 28.
