Pedestrian killed in night accident

09 Feb, 2010 12:00 AM

A MALE pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while walking along a footpath beside Frankston-Dandenong Road, Carrum Downs, about 8.10pm last Thursday.

The man, 60, died at the scene near Luscombe Avenue.

He was struck by a sedan driven by a 24-year-old man from the Northern Territory.

The driver was staying at Seaford and was travelling south along Frankston-Dandenong Road in an 80kmh zone when he apparently lost control of the vehicle on the wet road.

The car crossed the wide nature strip and spun 180 degrees, the rear end of the car striking the pedestrian about 60 metres from where it left the road. The car continued for about another 80 metres before hitting a tree and a telephone junction box.

The driver was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition complaining of back pain.

A major collisions investigations unit spokesman said the driver would be questioned regarding speed and alcohol.
