Kangas facie mountainous chase

LANGWARRIN will need to produce a super effort with the bat to have any chance of beating Mt Eliza in MPCA District cricket.

The Mounties won the toss and batted on Saturday at the small Lloyd Park No.2 oval, smacking 279 in 67 overs.

Young Luke Marshall was superb, scoring 75, including nine fours and two sixes.

Keith Burdett was also back to his damaging best, hitting eight fours and two sixes in his 75.

Just when Langwarrin looked to be regaining some control, bowler Chris Wisbey strode to the crease and blasted a quick-fire 61, which also included a couple of sixes. Gareth Wyatt chimed in with 27 at the end.

James Harker was the best of the bowlers early for the Kangas, taking 2-14 from six overs, while Ricky Ramsdale got his side back into the contest, picking up 3-63 from 22 overs.

The Kangas needed to face seven overs at the end of the day and have already lost a wicket, thanks to Wisbey.

Hastings is in the box seat against Delacombe Park, bowling out the home side in the 63rd over for just 145.

Isuru Dias and Timmy Birch were superb for Hastings, snaring four wickets each to dominate the opposition.

Dias finished with 4-33 from 13 overs and Birch picked up 4-24. Russell Sly was the best of the Parkers' batsmen with 31, batting at nine, and teenager Varun Singh made 28.

In reply, the Blues faced 12 overs and will resume on 1-38.

Balnarring continues to take charge in the competition, bowling out Main Ridge for 93 before having a bat and passing the total four wickets down.

Brodie Hilet was the matchwinner, bowling seven overs, and finishing with 6-7. Nick Henry was Hilet's partner in crime, snaring 3-13 from eight overs.

Luke Chapple top-scored for Balnarring with 27 and Toby Murphy 26, while Chris Murphy remains unbeaten on 23.

Ben Gage with 2-33 from nine overs was the pick of the bowlers for Main Ridge.

Red Hill has placed itself in a winnable position against Boneo at Boneo Reserve.

Glenn Collett (3-30) and Cameron Williams (2-31) did the job early with the ball for the home side. Chris Jobling and Ryan Jellie picked up two wickets each at the end of the day to bowl out the Hillmen for 153 in the 74th over. Red Hill's Josh Trevitt top-scored with 47.

Boneo is 0-6 in reply.

Pines' Paul Bradley bowled 37 overs and picked up 7-84 to help his side bowl out Carrum for 196.

John Mitchell held the Lions together with 87 after openers Shaun Foster (34) and Dale O'Neil (23) got their side away to a good start.

A massive 20 wickets fell in the Rye-Seaford game at Rowley Reserve. The Demons batted first and made just 116, Corey Harris opening with 43 to score the bulk of the runs, while Andrew McMannis (4-44) and Mike Manders (4-29) dominated with the ball for the Tigers.

In reply, the visitors were cruising at 1-59 before disaster struck.

Seaford lost 4-0 to be staring down the barrel at 5-59.
