LANGWARRIN hit its highest score in two seasons when it compiled 262 against Main Ridge at Ditterich Reserve on Saturday in MPCA District cricket. The Kangas welcomed back seasoned campaigners David Ross, Simon McEvoy and Al Davie and they proved the difference.
In other round four matches, Red Hill scored 200 against Balnarring, Hastings hit 232 against Carrum, Delacombe Park made 209 against Seaford, Mt Eliza has set 219 for victory at Emil Madsen Reserve, and Pines is 0-2 after Boneo made 178.
Langwarrin has failed to fire a shot for the past two seasons, but on Saturday its batsmen spent some quality time at the crease. McEvoy got his side away to a good start with 28, and 17-year-old Jake Prosser backed up his solid work from the week before with 27.
It was the 55 from Ricky Ramsdale and 41 from David Ross that cemented the innings for the visitors. Jarrod O’Conner Price (22) and Jack Heverin (19no) ensured the tail had a wag. The Kangas were dismissed in the 74th over, also a first for some time, batting for longer than 65.
Ben Gage was the pick of the Ridge bowlers with 3-79 and David Stark and Brad Bryant picked up two wickets each.
The tail of Delacombe Park ensured that it put a competitive total in the scorebook for Seaford to chase down.
While Jamie Guthrie (40), Steven Anderson (33) and Nick Christides (49) got their side away to a flyer, the middle order collapsed and it was up to Rowan Charles (21), Evan Campbell (31) and Shane Deal (27) to resurrect the innings.
The Park was bowled out in the 64th over.
Andrew McMannis claimed 4-55 for the Tigers and Nathan Hudgson snared 3-58. Faisal Payenda also picked up two wickets. Seaford is 0-21 in reply after 11 overs.
Mt Eliza and Rye have had some enthralling battles over the past few seasons and it appears history is going to repeat itself after the Mounties batted first and made 218. The Demons were on top early, claiming four early wickets.
However, Keith Burdett (35) and Tristan Faithfull (63) put on almost 100 to regain the ascendancy.
Lyle House had a cameo at the end with 22 to push the score beyond 200. Aaron Vernon was the best of the Rye bowlers with 4-48 and Travis Sawers picked up 3-62.
Hastings’ top-order certainly did their job against Carrum, all getting reasonable starts, but the middle order and tail failed to have much of an impact.
However, 232 is a competitive score, thanks to Sajith Kodituwakku, who made his first good score for the season with 45. Darren Kerr contributed 46 and Trevor Johnson was superb in making 72, which included 11 fours and a six.
Nick Esipoff and Terry Doyle helped Red Hill to 200 against Balnarring at the showgrounds. Esipoff made 48 and Doyle 33, and Ross Corfield and Josh Mold each contributed 25. Shane Murdoch was outstanding for Balnarring with 6-84.
