Lions make Balnarring's task difficult

09 Feb, 2010 09:38 AM

CARRUM appears to be odds-on to play MPCA District finals after scoring a monstrous 5-393 against Balnarring on Saturday.

Things are extremely tight at the top of the MPCA table and Balnarring is going to need to produce something extraordinary to stay in the four at the end of round nine.

As it stands, Balnarring has slipped to fifth, equal on 60 points with Seaford (fourth) and Delacombe Park (sixth).

Rye and Mt Eliza are equal top on 72 and Carrum is on 68.

The Lions will lock away a top four place if they can beat Balnarring.

Dale O'Neil was sensational on Saturday with 133, Steve Foster was among the runs again, unlucky to go out on 98 and Corey Hand was more than a handful with 67. Luke Chapple was the best of the Balnarring bowlers with 3-61.

Seaford looks to be gone in its match against Mt Eliza. Still patting themselves on the back after demolishing Langwarrin, the Tigers went out on Saturday to face one of the best in the business and limped to 138.

Andrew Watson was superb for the Mounties with 4-32, and Peneeth Goonawardena was again damaging with 3-37. Faisal Payenda was the best of the Seaford bats with 37. With things so tight among the sides looking for a place in the four, Seaford cannot afford to be smashed in this match. Their bowlers will need to produce. In reply, the Mounties are 2-41. Delacombe Park will be hunting for the outright victory against Langwarrin.

After bowling the Kangas out for 153, the Parkers smashed 1-64 in quick time to give themselves every chance of gaining 20 points. Other than Jarrod O'Connor-Price with 80, the Kangas' bats were again less than ordinary, a problem for the club in recent years. Shane Deal with 3-26 was the pick of the Parkers' bowlers.

Hastings will also be looking for an outright victory after scoring 5-307 declared against Main Ridge. Al Kristensen smacked 109 and Juvaunie Gayle opened with an unbeaten 108 to help guide the Blues to a massive total. In reply, the Ridge are in some strife on 2-21.

Rye is odds-on to knock over Boneo after bowling it out for just 93 on Saturday. Travis Sawers claimed 4-41 and Dean Collins 3-17. In reply, the Demons are 0-12.

Red Hill posted a big score against Pines, Felix McKillop scoring 115 of the team's 6-360. Riley Shaw scored 92 and Nick Esipoff 46. The Pines have Buckley's chance of getting the runs needed for victory.
