IT was a day for poor scores in MPCA Provincial cricket on Saturday in the lead-up to the finals.
Only two sides made it past 200, Peninsula Old Boys scoring 5-218 against Long Island and Mornington getting its act together and knocking up 9-217 against Sorrento.
Top-of-the-table Baxter was bundled out for 145 against Somerville, Frankston YCW was rolled for 115 by Crib Point, Heatherhill succumbed to Ballam Park for 121 and Moorooduc's season went from bad to worse. Already defeated by Mt Martha, the Ducs were rolled for 66.
POB's Brandon Lawler scored an unbeaten 106 in his side's 218 against reigning premier Long Island.
Brad Glenn chipped in with 43, leaving the other POB batsmen under-achieving on the day.
There was no team that under-achieved more than Moorooduc.
Joel Malcolm was left stranded unbeaten on 25, more than 35per cent of his side's entire tally.
Dave Sands was sensational for Mt Martha with 4-15 and Rhys Whitling continues to prove that he is one of the best in the business with 3-23.
In reply, Mt Martha has picked up the 12 points and will be keen for the outright, resuming on 5-135. Chris Holcombe is unbeaten on 29.
If the Reds, who sit in fourth on 56 points, can pick up the outright victory, it's going to make things extremely difficult for the likes of Mornington, Peninsula Old Boys and Heatherhill to get into fourth place (all on 48).
Mornington has given itself every chance of hanging in there, scoring 217 against second-bottom Sorrento.
Mick Foon helped himself to 82 and Brad Allen, who started the year playing D grade, scored 56.
Aaron Hastie with 4-24 was the pick of the bowlers for the Sorras.
Ballam Park is just 63 runs away from getting the win against Heatherhill.
The Hills batted first and were all out for 121, Nathan Martin getting the highest score with 28. Andrew Tweddle was the chief destroyer for the Knights with 5-42 and Matty Roach claimed 2-22.
Brad Davidson was superb for Cribby against YCW, claiming 5-20 and skipper Luke Herrington picked up 3-43.
James Degenhardt was the highest run scorer for the Stonecats with 28.
In reply, the Pies are 0-38, Matty Blake unbeaten on 25.
Amazingly, Baxter was rolled for 145 with Mal Coutts claiming 3-30, Vin Donaldson 2-0 and Russell Wilkes 2-9.
Jedd Sutton with 33 and Dale Irving (27) were the best of the Baxter bats.
