PLAYERS from the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association are well represented in a special south-east country region 8 team to play Sri Lanka under-19s.
All-rounder Paul Hartle, the best player in last season's Country Week final, Corey Harris and Wade Pelzer have been named in the squad for the game at Hallam cricket ground in Frawley Road on Friday.
Apart from the MPCA, region 8 includes the Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association, the Yarra Valley Cricket Association and West Gippsland Cricket Association. The Sri Lankan team is in Melbourne preparing for the Youth World Cup in New Zealand after a successful series against the Australian under-19 team in Darwin. It will also play the Victorian under-21 team at Frankston this Wednesday at 10am.
The Sri Lankans boast many talented players and it's expected three or four from the squad will progress to Test cricket.
The region 8 team also includes West Gippsland's Country Week skipper Mark Cooper and leading wicket-taker, spin wizard Dwayne Doig, Ferntree Gully stars Jason Fraser and Shane Cosstick and the Yarra Valley's top spinner Cam Darwall.
Entry to the games on Wednesday and Friday is free.
